Howard County police are investigating an attempted carjacking early Saturday involving a woman who was driving from the Columbia Mall parking lot.

The 31-year-old Glen Burnie woman told police a man approached her car as it slowed to a stop about 1 a.m. When the man pulled her from the car, she struck him in the groin with her knee, then fled to a nearby restaurant where she had just left some friends. She was not injured. Her Honda, which she left running at the stop sign, was not stolen, police said.

The assailant was described as a slender white male, aged 20 to 26, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a light mustache and chin hair, police said. He was wearing a dark jacket and pants.
