Name: Jennifer Carmo, 17, of Gambrills.

School: Arundel High School.

Accomplishments/Interests: Jennifer carries a 3.33 grade point average.

She is the senior class treasurer, vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America, a Student Government Association representative and a student tutor at her school.

Jennifer was an avid softball and soccer player until a medical condition forced her to the sidelines as a spectator of hockey and baseball games.

She is putting her time in physical therapy to good use, picking up insights into the field she has decided to enter. "It gives me a first-hand look at what I'll be doing as a therapist," she said.

In the community, Jennifer regularly participates in local blood drives as a Red Cross volunteer.

She also has been involved with holiday food drives and similar programs for the past several years. Last Christmas, she assisted in contacting needy families and delivering food baskets and toys.

The recipient of a scholarship, Jennifer will attend the University of Maryland Baltimore County campus, majoring in physical therapy. She later hopes to attend physical therapy school at the University of Maryland at Baltimore.

Comment: "When I'm a physical therapist, I hope to help many people the same way my therapists have helped me."
