Petitions opposing transfers to Springfield still circulating

The South Carroll Coalition will continue to gather signatures on petitions against state proposals for Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville.

The signers are protesting the proposed transfer of violent patients from Rosewood Center in Owings Mills and the conversion of Springfield's Lane Building into a juvenile detention center.

"Nobody wants to let go of the petition drive," said Kathleen Horneman, coalition member.

Since the drive began in December, the coalition has collected about 1,200 signatures and forwarded the petitions to the state.

"We don't like to be dangled," she said. "We won't suspend the petition until we get answers."
