Players to watch 1993 high school girls lacrosse preview

* Crystal Bennett, Southern, Sr., goalkeeper -- Aggressiv goalkeeper who helped anchor Bulldogs' defense during their run to state 2A-1A tournament last season.

* Amy Carnaggio, Severna Park, Sr., midfield -- Falcons' leading scorer last season (39 goals, 13 assists), she garnered honorable-mention All-America honors. Displays good speed and excellent stick skills and is good passer.

* Katy Kemerer, Broadneck, Jr., center -- Key contributor to Broadneck's 11-4 season last season anchors Bruins' midfield. Coach Leann Shuck said Kemerer, chosen to coaches' All-County second-team last season, is great all-around player.

* Merri Kennedy, St. Mary's, Sr., attack -- Kennedy, who has great stickwork and an excellent shot, notched 20 goals and 10 assists last season.

* Alice Matos, Archbishop Spalding, Sr., attack -- Registered 28 goals and nine assists last season. Potential 40-goal scorer, Spalding coach Mary Pat Bozel said, with departure of 57-goal scorer Marie Jamison, an Anne Arundel County Sun All-County second-team pick last season.

* Jen McGuire, North County, Sr., attack -- Proven scorer (29 goals, 17 assists last season) who is equally adept at setting up teammates.

* Robin Quinton, Severn, Sr., attack -- Ranked second for Admirals in scoring last season with 23 goals and 22 assists.

* Stephanie Roberts, Severna Park, Sr., midfield -- Three-year starter with superb quickness who causes numerous turnovers. Frequently sets up All-America teammates Amy Carnaggio and Erin Wylde. "She does a lot of the dirty work," Severna Park coach Carin Peterson said of last year's Baltimore Sun All-Metro second-team selection.

* Brenna Ryan, Severn, Sr., attack -- Good natural athlete who had 29 goals and 12 assists last season.

* Michelle Salmon, Old Mill, Jr., midfield -- Explosive scorer with excellent quickness who compiled 36 goals and five assists last season. Expected to score more this season with graduation of Susan Martin (56 goals).

* Cory Samaras, Annapolis, Sr., defense -- Older sister of Cristi Samaras is an outstanding defender who, along with teammate Emily Chones, probably will draw opponent's best scorer.

* Cristi Samaras, Annapolis, Jr., attack -- Was county's leading scorer in 1992 with 74 goals. Explosive scorer notched All-County honors as sophomore.

* Erin Wylde, Severna Park, Sr., midfield -- Labeled as best player in state by Severna Park coach Carin Peterson, first-team All-American last season is four-year starter. Versatile, with good speed and outstanding stick skills. Ranked second in scoring (45 goals, five assists) for Falcons last season.
