Osinga joins Sykesville planning board

The Sykesville Town Council has unanimously approved the appointment of Ann Marie Osinga as the newest member of the town's Planning Commission.

"I am very impressed with Ms. Osinga's community involvement," said Mayor Lloyd R. Helt Jr., who recommended her appointment.

Ms. Osinga and her family moved to Norris Avenue from the Midwest three months ago. In that short time, she said, she has been favorably impressed with her new community.

"I like small towns and I want to help them grow," she said. "This is the fifth state I have lived in, and the best."

Ms. Osinga, 46, said she has done volunteer work in the past. When she lived in Kansas, she served on a board that helped restore a century-old opera house.

She would like to become involved in town restoration projects and promoting Main Street, she said.

"This is my community," she said. "I want to help however I can."

The Planning Commission still has one vacancy, and the town also needs one person to serve on its Zoning Appeals Board.

Interested residents can apply at the Town House.
