Crash victim, 16, is in fair condition

A 16-year-old Mount Airy youth remained in fair condition at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda yesterday after being injured in a one-car crash Sunday.

Alan Ott, a passenger in the car, was flown to the hospital in a state police MedEvac helicopter, police said.

Anthony William Lawhead, 20, also of Mount Airy, was driving north on Mount Zion Road about 6:45 p.m. when he failed to stop at a flashing red light at Route 180, police said.

The vehicle ran off the road, overturned, became airborne and struck a utility pole.

Mr. Lawhead, who was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to stop at a stop sign, state police said.

FIRE

* Berrett: Winfield responded to a fire alarm on Fannie Dorsey Road at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out for 22 minutes.

* Mount Airy: A transformer fire on a pole on Twin Arch Road brought units from the Mount Airy fire company at 10:26 p.m. on Tuesday. They were out for 45 minutes.
