Baltimore City/Baltimore County players to watch

* Mike Allan, Gilman, Jr., attack -- Allan, who had 18 goals and 27 assists last season, is the Greyhounds' top returning point-getter.

* Rob Allen, McDonogh, Sr., attack -- Allen scored six goals in a season-opening, 10-8 win over DeMatha.

* Greg Breeback, Hereford, Sr., attack -- A brilliant finisher, Breeback is a left-hander who rolled up 115 points last year for the run-and-gun Bulls.

* James Coombs, Edmondson, Sr., attack -- An all-conference player, Coombs is one of the two top returning scorers for the defending MSA C Conference champion.

* Mark Cornes, Gilman, Jr., midfielder -- A hard-hitting, honorable-mention All-Metro selection last season, he will lead the Greyhounds in transition.

* Nick Cowan, Perry Hall, Jr., attack -- This three-year starter has excellent stickwork and a strong shot.

* John Cusson, Loyola, Sr., attack -- Cusson, who had eight goals and 10 assists last year, is a feeder and very creative.

* Spencer Deering, Friends, Sr., attack -- This balanced scorer (30 goals, 33 assists last year) was the MSA BB Conference Player of the Year for the conference champ.

* Tim Dodge, Patapsco, Jr., attack -- This crease attackman led the Patriots in scoring, uses good stickwork and plays intelligently.

* Pat Doyle, St. Paul's, Sr., defense -- A second-team All-Metro pick, this 6-foot-3, 215-pound player will take his aggressive skills to Duke this fall.

* Bill Evans, Loyola, Sr., midfield/attack -- This second-team All-Metro pick enters the year with 58 career goals and 16 career assists. He is headed for Johns Hopkins and was an All-American last year.

* Michael Ford, Towson, Sr., attack -- This do-it-all All-American is an excellent shooter and passer who scored 102 points last year for the 2A-1A state champion.

* Ronald Foster, Forest Park, Sr., attack -- An all-conference player for the MSA B Conference champs, Foster (28 goals, eight assists) was the league's third-best scorer last year.

* Sean Gaiser, Mount St. Joseph, Sr., goalie -- A three-year starter with finely honed anticipatory skills, Gaiser is looking to cap a glorious final season before heading to Loyola College.

* David Gurry, Southern, Sr., attack -- The MSA C Conference runner-up Bulldogs' second-leading scorer (30 goals, 16 assists) was an all-conference player last season.

* James Heath, Forest Park, Jr., midfielder -- This gifted underclassman was the league's top scorer (32 goals, 12 assists) and an all-conference player for the MSA B Conference champion.

* Barry Heddings, Towson, Sr., attack -- Heddings, the Generals' No. 2 scorer, uses one-on-one moves to score, as he did in netting the game-winning goal in the state-title victory over Mount Hebron.

* Pete Hilgartner, Calvert Hall, Sr., attack -- An honorable-mention All-Metro pick, Hilgartner (20 goals, 20 assists) will play lacrosse for the University of Maryland next spring.

* Brandon Holly, Cardinal Gibbons, Sr., defense -- This imposing 6-4, 255-pound player may be headed for Division II Lime stone College (S.C.) and is among the league's biggest defenders.

* Dave Kelly, Cardinal Gibbons, Sr., goalie -- He limited his MSA B Conference attackers to 4.1 goals per game last year.

* Andy King, Loch Raven, Sr., goalie -- The county's top returning keeper will spark the Raiders after splitting time last year before taking over in the playoffs.

* Ken Klein, Southwestern, Jr., defense -- This all-conference defender can score (10 goals, four assists last season). He'll be a leader on an underclassmen-laden squad, having anchored the Sabers to a playoff appearance last year.

* Mike Kuhensky, Lansdowne, Sr., attack -- A good shooter and crease attackman for the Vikings, Kuhensky sparks the offense with good stickwork.

* Maury LaPointe, Mount St. Joseph, Sr., attack -- This honorable-mention All-Metro pick is the Gales' top scorer (18 goals, 18 assists) and could take them to the top.

* Chris Lewis, Southern, Sr., midfielder -- The MSA C Conference Player of the Year led the runner-up Bulldogs in scoring (34 goals, 10 assists) and, with 69 goals and 38 assists, is nearing the school record.

* Mac McCulloch, St. Paul's, Sr., defense -- This 6-1, 210-pound honorable mention All-Metro pick is a mobile player who is headed for Johns Hopkins.

* Jason Miller, Franklin, Sr., midfield -- The Indians' scoring leader last year with 21 goals and 18 assists, Miller combines stickwork, speed and game sense.

* Mike Mrok, EVT, Sr., attack -- Mrok (33 goals, 11 assists) ignites the Mavericks with versatility, a quick release and good stickwork.

* Chris Nesmith, Edmondson, Jr., midfield -- This all-conference player led a strong transition to the MSA C Conference title.

* Daryl Parker, Southwestern, Jr., midfield -- An all-conference player, Parker (19 goals, seven assists) outran most MSA C Conference defensemen with his 4.5 speed and won 75 percent of his faceoffs.

* Ben Posil, City, Jr., attack -- An all-conference player, Posil led the Knights in scoring and to a 9-3 record.
