Notre Dame routs UMBC Colley's 5 lead Irish to 16-4 win

NOTRE DAME, INDIANA — NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Randy Colley scored five goals and had two assists to lead Notre Dame (5-0) to a 16-4 rout of UMBC (3-2), yesterday.

Three of Colley's goals came in the first quarter, when Notre Dame built a 9-1 lead after 11 minutes and nine seconds.

Kevin Mahoney added four goals for Notre Dame. Jason Smith led UMBC with two goals.

The Irish out-shot the Retrievers 58-25 and won 18 of 24 faceoffs.

It was the last of a three-game Midwest tour for UMBC, which beat Butler and lost to Michigan State earlier in the week.
