Ernest W. Gosnell, a native of Woodbine who retired about 10 years ago as a computer programmer at an Army Corps of Engineers facility near Berryville, Va., died Tuesday of a respiratory illness at a hospital in Richmond.
Mr. Gosnell, 79, moved from Berryville to Richmond, Va., about six years ago.
He had served in the Army in World War II and had been an A&P store manager in Mount Airy before being transferred to Berryville 46 years ago. He also owned his own independent grocery store for a time in Berryville before starting to work for the Army.
