Washington Road to be closed April 5

Washington Road in Westminster is scheduled to be closed for utility work between Main and Green Streets starting April 5, State Highway Administration officials announced. The road will remain closed for about two weeks.

The detour route during the closing will be down Green Street to Center to Main Street, the SHA said in a statement.

The utility work is part of the reconstruction of East Main Street from Longwell Avenue to Washington Road and along Washington Road to Quintal Drive.


* Westminster: City police said two residents reported their cars were vandalized this week.

Zoe Y. Dorsey of Pennsylvania Avenue told police that someone broke the rear window of her car with a bottle while the car was parked near her home Tuesday. Damage was estimated at about $250.

Jack Himes of West Main Street reported that someone broke the side window of his car Monday while it was parked near his house. The loss is about $75.


* Westminster: Westminster and Reese responded to a report of a house fire on Liberty Street at 12:33 p.m. yesterday. Units were out for 30 minutes.

* Silver Run: Pleasant Valley, Westminster and Littlestown of Adams County, Pa., responded to a building fire on Littlestown Pike at 3:46 p.m. yesterday. Units were out for 52 minutes.

Pleasant Valley and Littlestown and Kingsdale of Adams County, Pa., responded to a chimney fire on Babylon Road at 4:36 p.m. yesterday. Units were still on the scene early Thursday evening.

* Reese: Units from the Reese company responded for a woods fire on Lassiter Court at 6:29 p.m. Tuesday. They were out for 30 minutes.
