County to distribute U.S. food to poor

County officials are to distribute surplus federal government food to low-income families from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at 25 sites in the county.

Participants in welfare, Aid to Families with Dependent Children, Food Stamps Assistance, Medicaid, Maryland Energy Assistance Program and other programs for low-income residents are eligible. Proof of participation in one of those programs is required.

Supplies to be distributed include beans, butter, raisins, corn meal, flour, orange juice, potatoes, pork and peanut butter.

Operation Food Sharing is a cooperative project involving the county executive's office, the Anne Arundel County Food Bank and volunteers working through community organizations and churches.
