Cincinnati Bengals -- Traded QB Boomer Esiason (Maryland) to the New York Jets for a 1993 third-round draft choice.

Miami Dolphins -- Signed WR Reggie Brown, WR Alex Johnson, OT Kevin Robbins, C Tony Rowell, CB Frankie Smith and NT Craig Veasey.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Signed OL David Viaene and WR Leslie Shepherd.

Hockey

New Jersey Devils -- Sent C Bobby Holik to AHL Utica.

New York Rangers -- Traded C Doug Weight to the Edmonton Oilers for F Esa Tikkanen. Won arbitration case with C Darren Turcotte. NHL arbitrator ruled in favor of Rangers, who will pay Turcotte $500,000 a year for this season and next. Turcotte had asked for $800,000 a year.

Pittsburgh Penguins -- Lifted suspension of D Brian Fogarty and assigned him to IHL Cleveland.

Tampa Bay Lightning -- Recalled D Matt Hervey and LW Jason Ruff from IHL Atlanta.
