Navy recruit graduates from school

Navy Seaman Recruit Scott D. Scholz recently graduated from basic quartermaster school at Service School Command in Orlando, Fla.

Students learn the necessary procedures for assisting navigators, maintaining and correcting courses while at sea, techniques for steering ships, use of compasses, depth finders, radio direction finders and LORAN receivers (Long Range Aids to Navigation).

Seaman Scholz is the son of Albert R. and Beverly J. Scholz of Eldersburg and is a 1992 graduate of Liberty High School.

5) He joined the Navy in September 1992.

FIRE

* Gamber: An auto fire on Sykesville Road took firefighters from Gamber station only 14 minutes to extinguish at 4:19 p.m. on Friday.

* Eldersburg: Two people were partially overcome by fumes of a furnace fire in their home on White Rock Road at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday. Both refused medical treatment, according to a fire dispatch official. Fire units were out for 33 minutes.

The odor of gas in a house on Ridge Road brought fire equipment from the Sykesville, Winfield, Gamber and Liberty Road of Baltimore County, at 6:41 p.m. Friday. They were out for 20 minutes.

Fire units from Sykesville, Gamber and Liberty Road of Baltimore County responded for a chimney fire in a house on Macbeth Way at 8:18 p.m. Friday. They were out for one hour.
