State to widen Dorsey Road in June

The State Highway Administration plans to begin widening Dorsey Road near Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard in June and include a bike trail extension from the B&A Trail Park, SHA officials said.

About 600 feet of Dorsey Road, between Central Avenue and Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, will be rebuilt and paved in the $100,000 project.

SHA will add a second left-turn lane from Dorsey Road onto Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard to move traffic toward the light rail station there, said Project Manager Ron Earls. He said SHA plans to have the project completed when the Cromwell Station opens in late July.

Dorsey Road will be widened from 44 feet to at least 55 feet, with an additional 10 feet on the south side to be used as a bike path. The path will connect the northern end of the B&A Trail, bringing it to Central Avenue.

The state is also mapping a route to extend a paved hiker-biker trail from Dorsey Road to Stewart Avenue, where it would connect with a trail under construction along Aviation Boulevard at BWI Airport. The state plans to have a BWI Trail looping most of the airport.
