Bays select 2 local under-19 players

Fallston High's Shane Dougherty and UMBC's J. J. Kramer are two of the under-19 players the Baltimore Bays will carry this season, coach Kevin Healey said.

The Bays will open April 24 outdoors in the 40-team U.S. Interregional Soccer League, which requires teams to have at least three under-19 players on their roster.

The Bays have until April 1 to narrow their roster from 40 to 26 players. The 40 players were chosen from 70 who attended open tryouts last weekend in Dundalk.

Included in the 40 are several players who have already signed for 1993, including former Maryland Bays Chris Reif, Steve Powers, Jeff Nattans and Rob Ryerson, and former Blast players Billy Ronson and Mark Mettrick. Also included is Joe Barger, who played for both teams.

Before the season starts, the Bays plan to play in a college tournament at Loyola on April 17, as well as a game against UMBC. After opening the season on the road at Connecticut (April 24) and Delaware (April 25), the Bays face the Raleigh (N.C.) Flyers on May 1 at UMBC.
