The Associated Press in Sunday's editions incorrectly quoted a U.S. News and World Report story on U.S. espionage flights during the 1950s. In fact, according to the magazine, during that decade, the United States sent about 1,000 spy flights a year along the borders of the Soviet Union and China. Those flights sometimes penetrated Soviet and Chinese airspace, which extends several miles out from the actual borders.

The Sun regrets the errors.
