Get ready, get set, READ!

Children all over the county are being encouraged to hit the books for the next several weeks as part of the "Link Up for Library" program.

Children should write down the title, author, and their names and telephone numbers on colorful strips of paper for every book they read between Monday and April 24.

Finished strips must be dropped off at library branches before April 24.

During National Library Week, April 18 to 24, the strips will be turned into paper chains, signifying the link between children and books.

At the end of National Library Week, the chains will be measured and the links counted. The results will be displayed in library branches through May.

Participants will receive bookmarks, courtesy of the McDonald's Corp., and will be eligible to win an activity book, free pizza at Pizza Hut, free bowling at Fair Lanes, a pass to the Arundel Olympic Swim Center in Annapolis or a round of miniature golf at the Severna Park Golf Center.
