Car crash leads to theft charge CENTRAL -- Union Mills * Westminister * Sandymount * Finksburg

State police arrested a Westminster man yesterday after they investigated an accident and discovered that the car involved, and its tags, had been stolen in Baltimore County.

Lewis William Chase, 41, of the first block of Charles St. in Westminster, drove a 1991 Plymouth Sundance sedan off the road and hit a tree at about 7:20 a.m. yesterday on Old Westminster Pike west of Reese Road. Mr. Chase was not injured.

Sgt. Roger Meeks of the Westminster state police barracks said the police ran a routine check on the tags and discovered both the tags and the car had been reported stolen.

Mr. Chase was charged with two counts of theft and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, Sergeant Meeks said.

Mr. Chase was released on his own recognizance.

FIRE

* Westminster: Westminster, Pleasant Valley, Reese and Manchester responded to a report of smoke in an apartment on Falcon Court at 2:48 a.m. Sunday. Units were out for 32 minutes.

Westminster investigated a fire that had already been extinguished on Lucabaugh Mill Road at 9:20 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 51 minutes.

Westminster responded to a wash detail at East Main Street and Poole Road at 5:29 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 17 minutes.

* Union Mills: Pleasant Valley, Westminster and Littlestown of Adams County, Pa., responded to a chimney fire on Littlestown Pike at 6:46 p.m. Thursday. Units were out for 70 minutes.
