A gunman stole an undisclosed amount of cash and a cab from a cabdriver who picked him up at the Columbia Mall Thursday night, Howard County police said.
The driver, who was not identified by police, was not injured, police said.
The robbery occurred about 10 p.m. Thursday when a 38-year-old Columbia Cab driver picked up a fare at the mall, police said.
The man told the driver he wanted to go to the Brunswick Bowling Lanes near Carved Stone in Owen Brown. When they arrived, the passenger changed his mind, telling the cabdriver to go to Rustling Leaf and Silver Sod near Hopewell Park in Owen Brown, police said.
When they arrived, the passenger placed a silver handgun to the driver's head, ordered him to get out of the cab and leave all of his money in the front seat. The driver complied, and the passenger drove away, police said.
Washington police recovered the abandoned cab five hours later, county police said. The money was not recovered.
The gunman was described as a black man in his early 20s, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and 160 pounds, and wearing a light-colored knit cap and a blue or black jacket, police said.
