The play of Nyota Mitchell kept Kim Arthur in the shadows at Randallstown much of the season. Last night, however, Arthur stepped into the spotlight.

Arthur scored 24 points, including the winning basket with an assist from Mitchell, as top seed and No. 8 Randallstown edged visiting and fourth seed C. Milton Wright, 57-54, in a Class 3A, Region II semifinal.

Randallstown (22-0) will play host to the regional championship tomorrow night at 7 vs. Lansdowne. C. Milton Wright finished the season 16-5.

Arthur (second-leading scorer this season) scored seven of her points in a fourth quarter that saw the lead change hands seven times. Her final four points were her biggest.

Randallstown, which scored 12 of the game's final 15, trailed 51-50 when Arthur went to work. She took a perfect pass from Mitchell and laid it in. Arthur completed the three-point play with a free throw with 1:43 left.

Amanda McCulloch (19 points) then put the Mustangs up, 54-53, with a three-pointer six seconds later. Mitchell once more found Arthur open underneath for an easy layup and a 55-54 lead with 1:16 left.

"I was trying to get in the right place at the right time," Arthur said of that basket. "It was a nice pass."

Mitchell made several nice passes. She finished with 14 assists and 11 rebounds to go along with her 15 points. This happened despite missing the final 6:25 of the second quarter after her third foul.

"My role has changed since I [shifted] to point guard," Mitchell said. "I look for the easiest shot [overall]."

"I have to give Kim Arthur a ton of credit," said C. Milton Wright coach Gloria Liedlich. "She's a quality player."

Rebounding also helped the Rams. Randallstown out-rebounded the Mustangs, 37-25, and got several key boards in the fourth quarter.
