Towson State will attempt to win its fourth straight conference championship and Coppin State will strive to compile an undefeated record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as the headliners of the postseason basketball tournaments this week.

The Tigers, three-time titlists in the defunct East Coast Conference, take the Big South's regular-season crown into the tournament at the North Charleston Coliseum starting Wednesday with the play-in game. They can clinch their third trip in four years to the NCAA tourney.

Coppin opens play in the MEAC field with a 16-0 regular-season record. The Eagles finished with a six-game lead in the standings, the largest in MEAC history.

Another intriguing local team is Mount St. Mary's, which plays host to St. Francis (N.Y.) on Thursday as the first step toward its first NCAA bid. The Mountaineers finished third in the Northeast Conference.

Pairings in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will be determined after tonight's final league games. Loyola has clinched the eighth seeding and will play Manhattan if the Jaspers beat the Greyhounds tonight.
