Auto crash in Churchton kills man

March 01, 1993|By Staff report

A 36-year-old man was killed but his two young sons escaped serious injury yesterday afternoon when the pickup truck he was driving and a Cadillac collided in the southern Anne Arundel County community of Churchton.

Stephen A. Jackson, of the 5100 block of Lake Ave. in Shady Side, was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m.

County police said Mr. Jackson was driving his Ford Ranger pickup truck north on Dartmouth Road and the Cadillac was heading west on Fairfax Avenue. Police said the Cadillac's driver failed to halt for a stop sign.

After running into the Cadillac, the truck spun around and rolled over.

Mr. Jackson, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and was pinned under the truck.

His sons, ages 8 and 11, were pulled from the truck by a nearby resident and were released after treatment at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

The driver of the 1983 Cadillac, Becky Ann Wood, 18, of the 4900 block of Lee Blvd. in Shady Side, suffered cuts and a possible neck injury.

She was listed in good condition at the medical center last night.

Two passengers in the Cadillac -- the driver's brother and sister -- were not injured, police said.
