Major League Umpires' Association -- Joined a suit of 12 umpires in a suit in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia claiming the National League deducted the costs of airlines tickets from paychecks without taking the dispute to arbitration.

Colorado Rockies -- Agreed to contract terms with P Andy Ashby and IF Pedro Castellano.

Kansas City Royals -- Signed 2B Terry Shumpert and P Kevin Morton to one-year contracts.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Agreed to terms with P Pedro Martinez and SS Rafael Bournigal on one-year contracts.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Agreed to terms with C Doug Lindsey.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Reassigned first-base coach Dave Collins to advance scout and advance scout Jack Hubbard to first-base coach.

Texas Rangers -- Signed SS Cris Colon and P Danny Leon to one-year contracts.


Golden State Warriors -- Traded F Ed Nealy (1.5 ppg, 1.6 rpg) to the Chicago Bulls for a conditional second-round pick in the 2001 draft.

Milwaukee Bucks -- Traded G Alvin Robertson to the Detroit Pistons for F Orlando Woolridge.

Orlando Magic -- Placed former Washington Bullets F Terry Catledge on the injured list. Activated G-F Dennis Scott from the injured list.


Kentucky -- Announced that F Jamal Mashburn will forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the NBA draft.

Notre Dame -- Suspended basketball F Malik Russell (7.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg) for academic reasons for the team's final three games.


Houston Oilers -- Signed QB Cody Carlson to a three-year contract.

New York Jets -- Signed DE Jeff Lageman to a series of one-year contracts.


Jerry Ford Invitational -- Vail, Colo., tournament, which has raised more than $1 million for charity in the past 16 years, will end after 1996, former President Ford said.


Chicago Blackhawks -- Acquired F Joe Murphy from the Edmonton Oilers for D Igor Kravchuk and F Dean McAmmond.

New York Rangers -- Recalled D Dave Marcinyshyn from AHL Binghamton.

Cincinnati Cyclones (IHL) -- Traded RW Jeff Madill to Milwaukee for D Ian Kidd and D Shaun Kane.

Horse racing

Breeders' Cup Limited -- Announced that Churchill Downs (Louisville, Ky.), Belmont Park (Elmont, N.Y.) and Woodbine (Toronto) will be the hosts for the races from 1994 through 1996.


Cleveland Crunch -- Released M Viktor Jakovljevic.

Milwaukee Wave -- Traded F Joey Kirk and their 1993 first-round draft pick to the Detroit Rockers for F Eloy Salgado and signed Salgado to a contract through the 1996 season.
