Suspect in shooting released on bond

Man is charged as an accessory

Matthew August Balaz Sr. of the 2400 block of Sandymount Road near Finksburg, charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact in the shooting death of Gregory Lamont Howard on Jan. 28, was released on $10,000 bond Wednesday night.

Bail for Mr. Balaz was reduced from $25,000 by a Carroll County District Court judge Wednesday after his arrest Monday night for his alleged role in disposing of the shotgun used in the slaying.

Police have charged Timothy Cumberland and Daniel Justin Leonard, both 23, of Reisterstown and Samuel Allen Miller, 22, of Owings Mills, in connection with the homicide.

Officers said the three men later told Mr. Balaz about the killing and he disposed of the weapon the next day.
