February 25, 1993

Adam Meyerson, a Severna Park High School senior has been named one of 2,500 semifinalists in the 1993 Presidential Scholars Program. The semifinalists were selected from more than 2.5 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 1993.

A panel of educators will select 500 finalists in April.

By early May, 141 semifinalists will be selected as 1993 Presidential Scholars. The White House will announce their selection.

Winning scholars will be invited to Washington, D.C., for several days in mid-June to receive a medallion at a reception ceremony and to participate in activities with their elected representatives, educators and others in public life.

Now in its 29th year, the Presidential Scholars Program is the highest federal honor bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement with community and school activities.

Mr. Meyerson and the other semifinalists were selected for their exceptional performance on either the SAT of the College Board or the ACT Assessment of the American College Testing Program. Further consideration was based on essays, self-assessments, activities, recommendations and school transcripts.
