Community Info Center is in service

Those seeking information about life in Pasadena might be spending a lot of time at the newly opened Community Info Center.

The project, started by Pasadena businessman Tom Redmond, has been in service for almost two weeks at the Mountain Road Shopping Center, 3201 Mountain Road.

The idea is to provide a central resource for information on what is happening in the community, as well as a referral service.

"We're just trying to find what the community is looking for, what kind of resources," Mr. Redmond said. "If anybody needs anything, we want to be able to find the right person or agency that can help them."

Resources include several daily newspapers, copies of county and General Assembly legislation, community groups' bulletins, and newsletters from neighborhood groups.

A community bulletin board offers a space to publicize meetings and fund-raisers. The center also is available as a meeting space for up to 60 people for civic groups or improvement associations.

Staffed mostly by senior volunteers, the center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mr. Redmond said he hopes to extend the hours until 8 p.m. in the near future.

The Community Info Center phone number is 360-INFO (4636).
