Yellow Jackets have perfect weekend

Joe Anarino's 11 points helped lead the Linthicum-Ferndale Yellow Jackets to a 32-26 victory over Greater Glen Burnie in Saturday's 10-12 Ricky Pierce League matchup at Northeast High School.

David Dolch scored seven points and Chad Brown and Adam Sutton chipped in four apiece. Ryan George tallied two points for the victors, and teammate Erik Larson added one.

On Sunday, the Yellow Jackets claimed a 35-27 victory over Lake Shore in an 11-12 Anne Arundel Gridiron Rebel Sunday League game at North County High.

Brown led all scorers with 10 points, followed by Anarino and Dolch with nine and eight points, respectively, and George and Adam Sutton with four each.

Lake Shore was led by Craig Zuwalik with nine points and Jason Gogolinski with six.

* The Linthicum-Ferndale Hornets won two games last week in the 11-12 Linthicum-Ferndale Intramural League at Lindale/Brooklyn Park Middle School.

In the first game, the Hornets beat the Cougars, 36-22. The Cougars took an 8-1 lead and led 24-8 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Hornets' defense held the Cougars scoreless to put the game out of reach.

Chad Brown led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Greg Care with 10 and Dominic Butera with four. Brian Broomell, Jeremy Smitley and Justin Hibbard all chipped in two points each for the Hornets.

The Cougars were led by Justin Blick with 13 and Jason Fox with seven.

In the second game, the Hornets defeated Curt's, 38-22.

Brown again led all scorers with 17 points and Ben Carr chipped in six. Other scorers for L-F included Care, Butera and Hibbard with four each, Broomell with two and Smitley with one. Curt's was led by Mark Cadarette and Brian Lane with nine points each.

* 13-14 girls -- Despite playing with only five players, the Arnold Heat beat Annapolis Girls Club, 22-14, last Saturday at Magothy Middle School.

Becky Shank led the Heat with 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals. Summer Nugent helped out by scoring four points and pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds.

* 11-12 girls -- Kim Lawton's 10 points and 10 rebounds helped the Arnold Heat 11-12 girls team to a 23-3 victory over Cape St. Claire last Saturday at Central Middle School.

Tracy Sariscak had four points and eight rebounds for the Heat, and Jenny Butterwei contributed with four points and six rebounds. Julie Shank rounded out the scoring for Arnold with two points and seven rebounds.

* 10-12 boys -- The Greater Arnold Recreation Council Terps won a Harvey Grant League game Saturday over the Buccaneers, 31-7.

Leading scorers for the Terps (4-1) were Jon Garlington and Ben Taylor with six each and Brent Wilson with five.

Joey Case and David Westcoat scored four points apiece for the victors and teammates Mike Gargaliano, Kyle Rigling and Philip Morrison with two each.

* 8-10 boys -- The Severn Dream Team improved to 5-0 on Saturday by downing Greater Glen Burnie, 17-11, in a Michael Adams League contest.

David Williams Jr. led the winners with seven points, five rebounds and a steal. Brian Tokarcik had four points five rebounds and three steals, and Louis Benson had two points, three rebounds and a steal.

Bayne Brown was named defensive player of the game for Severn with six rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

T. C. Henson pulled down five rebounds and blocked one shot, and Duke Dailey and Travis Holmgren yanked down three and two rebounds, respectively.

* The Severna Park Green Hornets A team defeated Crofton A,22-13,in a Danny Ferry League matchup Saturday morning at Crofton Middle School.

The Hornets competed in the 26th annual Libby Southwestern Tournament in Camp Springs, where the 9-year-olds and 10-year-olds competed in separate tournaments.

Severna Park's 9-year-old contingent defeated Marlboro, 30-12, Clinton, 34-17, and Silver Hill, 24-16. Gavin Floyd led the Hornets with 22 points in the tournament, followed by Jon Garrett (19), Lionel Jennings (16), Deon Gough (11), Bobby West (seven), Nick Richards (six) and Trevor Quinn (five).

Severna' Park 10-year-old team defeated Prince George's County Police Boys and Girls Club, 56-14, Silver Hill, 34-25, Camp Springs, 34-29, and Oxon Hill -- which was riding a #F 20-game winning streak -- 38-37 for the championship.

Richard Tuohey led the way for Severna Park with 34 tournament points. Jarrod Ross added 27 points, and Derek Dixon had 21.

* 10-12 boys -- Steve Spurlin's 15 points and 14 rebounds paced the Severn Bulldogs to a 42-10 win over Arden (0-6) in a Harvey Grant League matchup Saturday.

Kirk Barrett threw in 10 points, and Travis Taylor had six. Tito Jackson and Aaron Scott (eight rebounds) had five and four points, respectively.

Arden was led by Brad Wright's four points. Tim Frey added three, Keith Edmonds had two and Josh Liston made a free throw.

* In a Ricky Pierce League game Saturday, Terry Keemer scored 22 points to help the Freetown Police Youth Activities squad top ARC, 55-23.
