Scouting units in the Four Rivers District of the Baltimore Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, will participate in the "Scouting for Food" campaign, a national "good turn" community service project organized to collect nonperishable food donations for the Maryland Food Bank and other organizations.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers will distribute donation bags to households. Residents are asked to place nonperishable food in the bags and leave the donations on front porches for collection on March 7.

Four Rivers District Director Kevin LesCallette said more than 75,000 pounds of food was donated last year in the Four Rivers District, which includes Anne Arundel County north of U.S. 50.

Sponsors of the event include Giant Food, WPOC-FM, WBFF-TV, the Maryland National Guard and the Baltimore Skipjacks. BBM Delivery & Services Inc. of Severn is donating the use of several of its delivery trucks and drivers to transport the donations from collection points in Arnold and Linthicum to the Maryland Food Bank in Deale.

Cub Scout Pack 269, sponsored by the Four Seasons Women's Club, will collect from Four Seasons Estates, Mistwood, Odenton Park, Crofton Village and Walden. Boy Scout Troop 755, sponsored by the Church of God, will collect from Odenton Gardens, Kings Heights, Stoney Hill, Hammond Park, Colony Ridge and Arundel View.
