Man injured when car crashes into health club

A 39-year-old Mount Airy man was in stable condition late yesterday at Carroll County General Hospital after he lost control of his car, which rammed into the front of a health club in the Twin Arch Shopping Center.

Thomas Lee Surber of the 200 block of East Road was driving a 1982 Datsun in the shopping center parking lot just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday when he had "health problems," according to Maryland State Police.

The victim's car accelerated out of control, hit a parked 1986 Isuzu, then crashed into the front of Health Unlimited Co., police reported.

Mr. Surber was taken to Carroll County General by a Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department ambulance crew. No information was available about the nature of his injuries or the "health problem" that prompted the accident.

Employees at Health Unlimited could not be reached for comment yesterday.
