Son of Edward and Debra...

ANTHONY "TONY" S. BITZEL, 17, son of Edward and Debra Bitzel of East Baltimore Street in Taneytown.

School: senior at Francis Scott Key High School and third-year student at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center.

Honored for: Taking a third year at the Vo-Tech center (most students take only two) while staying on the honor roll and the wrestling team at Key.

Along with other masonry students, Tony just finished laying the foundation for the school's house-building project on Kate Wagner Road.

"He's done a lot of neat projects here at the [Vo-Tech] center," said Principal Catherine Engel. "He deserves some recognition -- he's a neat kid."

Goals: "I hope to be a mason and eventually own my own business," Tony said.

Comments: "I was only planning to go [to Vo-Tech] for two years. By my junior year, we looked it up and realized I would have enough credits to graduate, so I went back for a third year," he said.

From the start, he preferred masonry over the other trades that the Vo-Tech center offers, he said.

"I like construction. It just seemed interesting."
