Fort Washington man is killed in car accident on Route 29

A Fort Washington man was killed yesterday morning when the car in which he was a passenger ran off Route 29 near the Frederick Road overpass and flipped over a guard rail.

Cyreno Maurice Johnson, 41, of the 8300 block of Bella Vista Terrace, was killed in the 5:50 a.m. accident. The car, a Ford Probe driven by William Bell, 30, of Columbia, was southbound at the time of the accident.

Mr. Bell was taken by ambulance to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was listed in serious condition, police said.

2nd Battalion cancels service demonstration

The 2nd Battalion of the Maryland Defense Force has canceled its first open house service demonstration, which was scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ellicott City Armory. No future date has been scheduled.

* Ellicott City: 3100 block of Normandy Woods Drive: Someone tried to steal a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse between 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.

9200 block of Route 40: A lock was cut on a trailer about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

3400 block of Plumtree Drive: A person was seen trying to enter a Mitsubishi about 10 p.m. Wednesday, but fled in a stolen maroon 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo was stolen from the 8200 block of Main Street between 3:50 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. Wednesday.

* Elkridge: : 6800 block of Douglas Legum Drive: Someone kicked in a front door at Dorsey Cleaners about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
