Officer, civilians honored for catching theft suspect

An off-duty county police officer and three hotel employees received awards last night for chasing and catching an armed-robbery suspect who held up the Comfort Inn in December.

Officer Anthony Mills heard the call on his police radio about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 18, drove to the scene and saw a man running into the woods behind the Ambulance Center on Belle Grove Road.

He and three hotel workers caught the man, who was charged with robbing the Comfort Inn in the 6900 block of Baltimore and Annapolis Blvd. in Linthicum.

The three employees who chased the suspect are Robert T. LaForce, Cliff Wietstruk and Louis Zagaino.

The awards were presented during a police banquet at Michael's Eighth Avenue.

Police nab suspect in purse-snatching

A Baltimore man has been charged with snatching a woman's purse outside of a Brooklyn Park supermarket on Wednesday.

Investigators said the 35-year-old victim was outside the Farm Fresh Supermarket at the intersection of Hammonds Lane and Ritchie Highway at 7:10 p.m. when a man grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground.

Police soon found the suspect behind a building next to Farm Fresh. The woman identified him as the man who grabbed her purse.

Russell Lee Mansfield, 32, of the 3600 block of Brooklyn Ave., was taken to Northern District to be charged.
