Churches plan to mark start of Lenten season PASADENA

Congregations and parishes in the Pasadena area invite you to participate in the beginning of the Lenten season next week:

* Community United Methodist Church, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road, will have a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Ash Wednesday services will begin at 7 p.m.

* The Parish Life Committee of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 8615 Fort Smallwood Road, is sponsoring a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The menu will be pancakes, sausage, applesauce, coffee, tea or punch.

Tickets are $3.75 for adults, and $2 for children age 12 and under.

The Ash Wednesday service of Holy Communion and imposition of ashes is at 7:30 p.m.

* Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road, will have a service of confession, litanies, Holy Communion and imposition of ashes at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

* The youth group at Magothy United Methodist Church, 3703 Mountain Road, is sponsoring a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner starting at 6 p.m.

The Ash Wednesday service is at 6 p.m.

* Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 4760 Mountain Road, has scheduled its Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m.

* Pasadena United Methodist Church, 61 Ritchie Highway, will have a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner at 6 p.m.

The Ash Wednesday communion service will start at 8 p.m.

* St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 7859 Tick Neck Road, will sponsor its Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at 5:30 p.m. in the undercroft.

Imposition of ashes will be at noon and 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday.

The church also will begin its weekly Wednesday Lenten program, "Focus on the Family," featuring filmspresented by author James Dobson, at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

* Saint Jane Frances Catholic Parish in Riviera Beach will offer Mass with imposition of ashes at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 1:45 p.m. 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Stations of the cross will be offered every Friday during Lent at 7 p.m. Afternoon station of the cross services are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 26, and on March 19, 26 and April 2.

* Our Lady of the Chesapeake parish will offer Mass with ashes imposed on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. 9 a.m., and 7:30 p.m.

Starting Thursday, the parish will offer weekday Lenten communion services at 6:30 a.m. at the church. The early-morning service is offered by OLC Eucharistic ministers.

* Magothy-Chelsea Community Lutheran Church is sponsoring a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Communion service at 7 p.m.

The Northeast PTSA is sponsoring a Principals Forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school auditorium.

Principals from schools in the Northeast feeder system and the Center for Applied Technology-North will participate: Betty Freeland, Riviera Beach Elementary; Donald Smith, Sunset Elementary; Robert Kanach, High Point; Deborah Huey, Solley Elementary; John Brown, George Fox Middle; Joseph Carducci, Northeast High School; and John Hammond, CAT-N.

Each principal will present a brief background of his or her school and its goals, followed by a question and answer period, said PTSA President Carlene Heilman.

All Northeast families are invited to attend.
