Ex-girlfriend held in shooting of man at bar

A Severn man was in stable condition after he was shot in the back early yesterday, county police said.

Keith Phelps, 30, of the 1300 block of Donald Ave. was shot while he was in Nan's bar in the 7900 block of Telegraph Road about 1:45 a.m.

Police said Mr. Phelps had recently ended a relationship with Rita Faye Stepp, 36, of the 2800 block of Jessup Road in Jessup.

Ms. Stepp was charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a handgun. She was being held on $25,000 bail yesterday.

Woman is hit, robbed outside Laurel bar

A 26-year-old woman was punched and robbed of $30 outside a Laurel bar Sunday night, county police reported.

The woman, whom police did not identify, was in the parking lot of the Starting Gate in the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road at 9:40 p.m., when three people in a small gray car called her name.

One of them grabbed her arm, punched her in face and took the money out of her hand, the police report said.


* Crofton: Someone took two tires from a 1992 Saturn parked in the 1700 block of Greentree Court Sunday.

* Maryland City: Burglars broke into Cartel Mobile Communications in the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road and stole a cash box with $1,095.

* Maryland City: Someone stole $380 worth of money and clothing from a home in the 3300 block of Fort Meade Road Sunday.
