Severna Park Kickers top Patriot Club, 6-2

The Severna Park Soccer Association Kickers 15-and-under girls soccer team defeated the first-place Patriot Soccer Club, 6-2, in an under-19 indoor league matchup Sunday at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore.

Tracy Mrazeck (North County) and Shannon Chaney (Severna Park) led the way for the Kickers with three goals each. Playing well defensively for the victors were Carina Sonberg, Ruth Wilson, Chrissy Kohlhepp and Amber Wilkerson.

In another indoor matchup, the Kickers tied the Baltimore Soccer Club, 4-4, last Friday night at Meyer's Pavilion.

Scoring for Severna Park were Mrazeck, Jill Jones, Sarah Meehan and Tar Theis. Goalie Angie Zittle recorded 12 saves for the Kickers. The Severn Stormers 8-10 girls basketball team improved to 3-2 with a 12-8 win over Cape St. Claire I in Saturday's Glen Burnie League game.

Renee Pineda had six points, four rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot for the Stormers. Lindsey Harris scored four points, got a rebound and a steal. Amanda Uhrin grabbed six rebounds and added two points, while Regina Jones contributed with four rebounds.

* 10-12 boys -- Meade Village saw its record drop to 2-2 with a 30-22 loss to Harvey Grant League opponent East Glen Burnie last weekend.

Darren Johnson led Meade Village with 13 points, while Delowyn Pack and James Roberts added five and four each.

* Kevin Mallet scored 16 points to help the Freetown Police Youth Activity Hornets defeat the Buccaneers, 34-8, in a Rick Pierce league game Saturday.

Mallet also contributed six assists and four blocked shots for the 4-2 Hornets. Tony Henson scored eight points and handed out four assists.

Kevin Boone had four points and six assists, while Terry Keemer (six rebounds and one blocked shot), Martin Keemer and Maurice Dorsey scored two points each. Derrick Jennings added two rebounds, and Marvin Pearlman collected two steals.

* 10-12 girls -- Kim Lawton's 17-point, 12-rebound effort paced the Arnold Heat (5-0) to a 31-9 win over Cape St. Claire in the Chesapeake League Saturday.

Julie Shank had eight points and seven rebounds. Tracy Sariscak (four points) and Julie Gosewisch (two points) grabbed 10 rebounds each.

The Heat will play GARCI Saturday at 9 a.m. at Central Middle School in Edgewater.

* 12-14 boys -- Meade Village kept its unbeaten record intact with a 21-18 triumph over the Bucs in the Chris Mullin league last week.

Rico Ridgely scored six points, followed by Tony Twitty and R. C. Ward, who chipped in five and four, respectively. Kevin Henson, Janell Gray, and Jason Clendinin had two each.

* The Severn Running Rebels took advantage of two technical fouls on Greater Glen Burnie coach Micah Holland for a 44-41 overtime win in a Tom Gugliotta League game.

Justin Patton led Severn (5-0) with 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Antwaun Smith posted nine points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Patrick Owens had five points and four rebounds, and Paul Nesbitt (three steals and two rebounds) and Chris Morean had two points each.

Gary Kinsey led Greater Glen Burnie with 11 points. Mike Yost and Chris Wetterman tallied seven points each. Other scorers were Brad Burns (six points), Shane Thompson (five), Eric Jacobsen (three) and Brandon Powell (two).

* 14-17 boys -- Vatrone Foote's 16 points wasn't enough to keep Meade Village from dropping a 42-39 overtime decision to Brooklyn Park in a David Robinson league game last weekend.

Rayshawn Mackell added 13 points and four steals for Meade Village (2-2).

* The Severn Warriors (2-3) won its second game of the season over winless Severna Park B, 39-21, in another David Robinson league game.

D'Andre Hiers led all scorers with 13 points, including a rim-rattling slam dunk between several Severna Park defenders.

Ashaun Nelson helped the winners with nine points, while Jeff Green scored eight. Jeremy Martin and DeWayne Davis scored four and three points, respectively, and Chris Saulter added two.

Mike Petrosky led Severna Park B (0-5) with five points, while Chase Scott, David Schwab, Geoff Gill, Kevin Johnson, Jon Thompson, Grey Pharr, Matt Dinenna and Josh Morey had two points apiece.

* Freetown's Police Youth Activity (0-4) squad jumped out to a 6-0 lead but went on to lose to ARC, 42-20, Sunday in David Robinson league play.

Duwan Henson (four assists) and Joe Queen led PYA with six points each. Martin Johnson, a 13-year-old, scored three points, while Darwin Coates (five rebounds and four blocks) and Marcus Day (four steals) had two each. Gerald Wallace and Pete Johnson helped off the bench.

PYA will attempt to earn its first win this Sunday against Greater Glen Burnie.

* Severna Park A fell to 2-3 following a 36-30 loss to the Annapolis Boys & Girls Club (4-1) Sunday.

Kevin Kasparzak had 12 points for the losers and Joe Miller had 10 points to go with a game-high seven rebounds. Corey Poorman added six points.
