Magazine picks Hickey for list of 100 best, brightest

Howard County School superintendent Michael E. Hickey is one of four Maryland administrators named to a list of "100 of North America's best and brightest school executives" in the February issue of Executive Education magazine.

County school chief since l984, Mr. Hickey is credited with leading the system's development of "a strong instructional program . . . based on shared planning and decision making at the school level."

The 100 outstanding school administrators were chosen on the basis of consistently excellent leadership and effectiveness in improving students' performance, implementing systemic reforms, involving the community, human relations and working with the political system. Other Maryland winners are Evelyn Holman, Wicomico County superintendent since 1984, Noel T. Farmer, Frederick County school head since 1987, and Stuart D. Berger, the new Baltimore County superintendent who was cited for his performance while directing reforms in the Wichita, Kan., school system.
