S. Carroll High names students of the month SOUTHWEST -- Mount Airy * Woodbine * Taylorsville * Winfield

South Carroll High School has selected seniors Heather Daniel and Charles Shry as its students of the month for January.

The daughter of Earl and Sherry Daniel of Winfield, Heather was managing editor of The Courier, the school newspaper, last fall, and was active in the paper's reorganization. She is secretary of the National Honor Society and a member of the yearbook staff and band. Heather is an active Girl Scout who will receive the Gold Award, the highest Girl Scout honor, this spring. She plans to attend college after graduation.

Charles is the son of Charles and Barbara Shry of Mount Airy. He is in charge of distributing the equipment from the Media Center. He is taking Computer Technology at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center. Charles works at Four Seasons Restaurant and plans to attend college studying computers and the restaurant business.

FIRE

* Winfield: Winfield responded to electrical wires arcing on West Old Liberty Road at 9:43 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 30 minutes.

* Mount Airy: Mount Airy assisted Frederick County on a house fire on Old National Pike at 9:19 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 30 minutes.

* Woodbine: Winfield responded to electrical wires arcing on Woodbine Road at 7:06 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 15 minutes.
