EASTON PENNSYLVANIA — EASTON, Pa. -- Navy dropped its third overtime game in fou tries this season, losing to Lafayette College, 65-60, yesterday in the Patriot League.

Jeff Schoeneck hit the first two baskets in the overtime to propel the Leopards (5-17, 2-8) to the win.

The Midshipmen (7-14, 5-6) have lost three straight since winning a pair of road games a week ago.

Neither team led by more than six in the second half, but the Midshipmen were on top most of the way until Jon Norton scored with 2:49 remaining to put Lafayette ahead 54-53. Norton added two free throws with 2:36 left to give the Leopards a three-point margin, but they did not score again in regulation.

After 6-foot-10 freshman center Alex Kohnen made a free throw with 2:04 left, Navy forged a tie on freshman Jim Hamilton's follow-up with eight seconds remaining.

The Mids were outscored 9-4 in the overtime. Senior John Haase topped Navy with 16 points.

Kohnen added 15 points and seven rebounds. He has 39 rebounds in the past four games.

The Leopards, who have beaten Navy three straight times at Kirby Fieldhouse, got 16 from guard Keith Brazzo and 11 from Schoeneck.

"Our inability to handle the ball well at the end of the first half got them back into the game and gave them confidence," Navy coach Don DeVoe said.

This was the schools' third overtime game in Easton the past 11 years. The Midshipmen won 71-69 in one overtime in 1983 and 74-71 in two overtimes in 1985.
