Snowden plans announcement on mayor's race

Annapolis Alderman Carl O. Snowden plans to make it official tonight.

The Ward 5 Democrat is expected to end months of speculation and announce during his fund-raiser tonight whether he is running for mayor, county council or a seat in the state legislature. Or, he might just run for a seat on the city council.

Mr. Snowden, a civil rights activist, has been active in city politics for nearly two decades.

His fund-raiser will be at Loews Annapolis Hotel.

Edgewater man charged in break-in

County police charged an Edgewater man with breaking into a gas station in the 3000 block of Solomon's Island Road yesterday morning.

Police said Carroll Grover Howard Jr., 20, of the 500 block of Highland Drive, used a crowbar to break into the AGIP gas station at 4 a.m. After police were called to the station, they searched the area and found Mr. Howard running down Mayo Road with a crowbar in his hand. Police could not find a man they believe was with Mr. Howard.

Mr. Howard also was charged with destruction, police said.
