Gilchrest to meet public at VFW post

Brooklyn Park residents can get their first look at their new congressman tomorrow as Wayne T. Gilchrest, a 1st District Republican, visits the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2916, 601 E. Patapsco Ave.

The visit, scheduled for 10 a.m., is the last in a series of town meetings the congressman has held for his new constituents in Anne Arundel County and the slice of South Baltimore that includes Brooklyn and Curtis Bay.

Members of the VFW post are expected to discuss pros and cons of annexing Brooklyn into Anne Arundel County.

Mr. Gilchrest has spoken to at least 400 residents in SevernPark, Glen Burnie, Broadneck and Annapolis since the end of January, addressing topics such as gays in the military, social security cuts, entitlement programs and local environmental concerns.

"People are taking a more active role in what's going on in government today," said Cathy Collier, Mr. Gilchrest's press secretary.

The meeting is open to the public.
