Pasadena man charged in drug case

County police charged a Pasadena man with possession of marijuana after an officer stopped him for speeding on Fort Smallwood Road Monday.

According to the police report, the officer was running radar in the 8000 block of Fort Smallwood Road at 6:17 a.m. when he stopped a 1983 Plymouth. As he stood at the driver's side door, the officer could smell marijuana coming from the car. He asked the driver to get out of the car and found a marijuana pipe. The driver removed a small bag of marijuana from his pocket, the police report said.

Saying he was on his way to work and it was his first day at a new job, the driver asked the officer to "cut him a break," the police report said.

Edward Leroy Scarlett Jr., 27, of the 600 block of C Street, was taken to Eastern District to be charged.
