Contract given for razing work on parking garage

A $16,500 contract to plan the first stage of demolition of the Gilbert parking garage has been awarded to McCrone Inc., an Annapolis architectural firm.

The City Council awarded the contract Monday night, but several council members wanted the parks board to comment on the plans. Demolition of the parking garage will eliminate a small park area with a bench and a tree.

The garage, off East Main Street between the public library and fire hall, is scheduled for demolition because roof problems were determined too costly to repair.

The first stage of demolition calls for removal of the roof and reduction of the walls to retaining-wall height.

City Hall renovations to be finished this year

Renovation of Westminster's City Hall to make the historic building accessible to the disabled is expected to be completed before year's end.

The City Council awarded a $16,230 design contract Monday night to architects Daniels Jones and Associates of Baltimore.
