School official honored by national arts group

R. Barry Shauck, arts supervisor for Howard County public schools since 1985, has been named Arts Educator of the Year by the National Arts Education Association.

His award was for the division of supervision and administration in the eastern region of the United States.

Mr. Shauck is a member of the Howard County Arts Council's board of directors.

POLICE LOG

* Elkridge: 6800 block of Douglas Legum Drive: A front door lock at Shear Brothers was broken between Saturday and Tuesday, and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

6600 block of Douglas Legum Drive: A front door lock was broken between Sunday and 10:15 a.m. Monday.

* Ellicott City: 5100 block of Little Creek Drive: Someone forced open a basement door between 6 p.m. Sunday and 6:45 a.m. Monday, and stole a furnace, stove and refrigerator.

4900 block of Dorsey Hall Drive: Someone entered a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder between Feb. 2 and Monday and scattered papers in a glove box.
