Youth wrestling

* Arundel Raiders -- Eight members of the Arundel Raiders youth wrestling team placed in a tournament held recently at Kent County High School.

In Division I (8 and under) action, 65-pounder John Davis snared third place, and 70-pounder Joe Fold came in second. Seventy-pounder Spike Stinchcomb earned third place in Division II (9-10), and 85-pounder Tony Darby finished second. Both 98-pounder George Fold and 125-pound participant Eric Wiley placed second in Division III (11-12), and in Division IV (13 and over), 84-pounder Carl Cicchetti and 98-pounder Wesly Muhl finished third and fourth, respectively.

This Saturday, the Raiders will visit Oxford, Pa., to compete in the Oxford Invitational at Lincoln University.

* Arundel Raiders Division II Tournament -- Nine county and five out-of-county groups were represented in this tourney on Sunday. The results are as follows:

Novice Division

40 pounds -- Corey Bauers (Severna Park) first.

45 -- Frankie Wehrberg (Mountain Road) third, John Mach (Mountain Road) fifth, Eric Smith (Severna Park) sixth.

50 -- Lee Trohanis (Crofton) first, John Leddon (Mountain Road) sixth.

55 -- Chris Tucker (Severna Park) first, Richard Vazquaez (Cape St. Claire) third, Matt Payne (Severna Park) fourth, Matt McGrath (Crofton) sixth.

60 -- Kevin Deming (Arden) first, Josh Kachura (Crofton) second, Robert Byrd (Raiders) fourth, Jeff Rothenbecker (Mountain Road) sixth.

65 -- Ryan Louder (Crofton) third, Greg Payne (Severna Park) fourth, Jonathan Davis (Reisterstown) fifth.

70 -- Derrick Hammitt (Mountain Road) second, Jason Baxter, (Crofton) third, Bill McGrath (Crofton) fourth, Steve McManas (Severna Park) sixth.

75 -- John Mosca (Mountain Road) second, George Gutridge (Mountain Road) fourth, Kevin Finnerdy (Mountain Road) fifth, Ronnie Stains (Severna Park) sixth.

80 -- David Sullivan (Severn) second, Damien Eldridge (Severn) third, Dan Fitzgerald (Severna Park) sixth, Matt Negrette (Severna Park) sixth.

85 -- Richie McCombs (Raiders) first, Wes Muhl (Raiders) second, Kevon Angolis (Crofton) fourth, Mark Malano (Severna Park) fifth, Brad Bauer (Raiders) sixth.

90 -- Dave Shupe (Cape St. Claire) first, Raymond Rogers (Arundel) second, Andrew Wilkenson (Cape St. Claire) fourth, Ken Andrews (Mountain Road) fifth.

95 -- Todd Simpson (Cape St. Claire) first, Stephan Eide (Severn) second, Tony Stallard (Severna Park) third, Bruce Carr (Arden) fourth, Ryan Harris (Crofton) sixth.

Youth basketball

* 14-17 boys -- Coach Ray Hale's ARC boys basketball team won its third game in a row Sunday by defeating Severna Park B, 44-10.

Raynard Hill led ARC with eight points, and seven points each came from John Chadwick and Victor Arciaga; James Rivers scored six points. Geoff Gill and Grey Pfarr each scored five for Severna Park, which dropped to 0-4.

Chadwick, who is the team's leading scorer averaging 11.3 points a game, paced ARC in its other two wins -- by 29-21 over Meade Village and 51-45 over the Severn Athletic Club.

* Corey Poorman's three-pointer at the end of regulation propelled Severna Park A to a 38-32 overtime victory over the Annapolis All Stars in Sunday's Pat Ewing League game.

The All-Stars, who led for most of the game, took a three-point lead with less than 10 seconds left, but Poorman's 35-footer at the buzzer tied the game at 32-all. Kevin Kasprazak led the winners with 14 points and nine rebounds and Poorman had 10.

Joe Miller and Chris Bowman added eight and six, respectively, for Severna Park, which improved its record to 2-2.

"We played very well during overtime, and we hit our free throws when we needed to [6-for-7 during overtime]," said Severna Park coach Joe Snowden.

* Rena Nuson's 17 points led Greater Glen Burnie to a 50-45 win over the Severn Warriors (1-3) in a David Robinson League game on Sunday.

Pat Crawford added 16 points for the winners, and Brian Austin, Brian Spurlin and Brian Bidea had four each. Other Greater Glen Burnie scorers included Tim Budford, Jeremie Hoffman and Anthony Catroppo with two each.

D'Andra Heirs had a game-high 18 points for the Warriors, followed by Jeff Green, Jeremy Martin and Ashan Nelson with six each. Te-Rah Hendricks and Daven Garrett pitched in four each.

* 12-14 boys -- The Severn Athletic Club Runnin Rebels kept their unblemished record intact with a 48-39 triumph over the JPYO Celtics.

Antwaun Smith had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Rebels, and Jason Bennett had 10 points and eight rebounds. Michael Burns added nine points, and Justin Patton had seven points and seven rebounds. Other scorers included Patrick Owens (five points and four rebounds) and Charles Ellis, Jurrell Matthews and Evan Williamson with two points apiece.

Severn coaches Micah Holland and Brian Mackell were pleasewith their team's 38 rebounds.

* 12-14 girls -- With just five available players, the Arundel Heat defeated St. John's, 25-5, in a Chesapeake League game on Saturday.
