Hampstead writer wins awards for 1992 poetry and short story

Hampstead free-lance writer Jane Lippy has won two of the third Annual Koala Awards given by the Christian Writers Fellowship International of DeLand, Fla., for work published in 1992.

Ms. Lippy, 52, won the poetry award on Jan. 17 for "Trio," which was featured in Mature Living magazine. She received the short-story prize for "Carol of the Chickadee," which was printed in The Church Musician magazine.

Both magazines are published by the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, headquartered in Nashville, Tenn.

In a press release, Mary Harwell Sayler, director of the Christian Writers Fellowship International, said Ms. Lippy is the first author to win two of the awards.

The fellowship also presents Koala Awards for children's literature and non-fiction, Ms. Lippy said.
