Jump rope event lassoes funds for cardiac health

More than 100 third-, fourth- and fifth- graders at WEstminster Elementary School recently participated in the second annual " Jump Rope for Heart" event sponsored by the American Heart Association.

Students supported by pledges participated in 180 minutes of jump rope activities and earned prizes through the pledges they raised.

The event also was a part of the healthy-heart unit in the stidents' physical education class. * Westminster: Units from the Westminster and New Windsor stations fought a chimney fire in a house on Old New Windsor Pike at 8:43 a.m. Sunday.

Pleasant Valley, Westminster and Manchester responded for a building fire on John Owings Road at 8:58 a.m. Sunday. They were out for 38 minutes.

Pleasant Valley responded to a car fire on Taneytown Pike west of Westminster at 5:04 a.m. Monday. Units were out for 16 minutes.
