Winfield Fire Department honors top volunteers SOUTHWEST--Mount Airy * Woodbine * Taylorsville * Winfield

Eight members of the Winfield and Community Volunteer Fire Department were honored at the company's annual banquet and awards ceremony Jan. 30 for service during 1992.

Greg Dods, with 210.75 hours of service, Tim Warner, with 203.75 hours, and Brian Arrowood, with 190 hours, were honored as the top three responders to fire calls.

Eric Haugh, with 197.75 hours, Tina Murphy, 158.25 hours, and Scott Legore, 157.75 hours, were the top three responders to ambulance calls.

The top three combined fire call and Emergency Medical Service responders were Tim Warner, with 437 hours, Mr. Haugh with 396 hours and Mr. Legore with 360 hours.

Mr. Legore was named firefighter of the year, and Dave Bittinger was named rookie of the year.

The company responded to 412 fire calls, involving 4,846 man-hours of service, and 493 emergency medical calls during 1992.

Officer installed for 1993 include Doug Dayhoff, president; Gary Rains, vice president; Bill Yingling, secretary; Mike Fogle, assistant secretary; Scott Dayhoff, treasurer; and Sandy McKenzie, assistant treasurer.

Fire and EMS officers are Tim Warner, fire chief; Ronnie Legore, first assistant fire chief; Danny Warner, second assistant fire chief; John Poole, fire captain; Eric Haugh, first fire lieutenant; Jim Heckendorn, second fire lieutenant; Rodney Valentine, EMS captain; Robin Lamb, EMS lieutenant.

Directors installed include Robert Farver, Howard Legore, Wayne Logue, Ms. Murphy, Gene Naill and Ricky Warner.

The Rev. John Morrill is the company's chaplain.

The ladies auxiliary installed the following 1993 officers: Julia Franklin, president; Yvonne Baker, vice president; Gail Boone, secretary; Helen Wallace, assistant secretary; Barbara Zepp, treasurer; Dorothy Wantz, chaplain; Ruth Bennett, historian.
