A fire that began in the garage of a house in Dorsey Hall yesterday afternoon caused an estimated $135,000 in damage, said Howard County Fire Chief Donald R. Howell.

There were no injuries, he said.

The Fire Department received the emergency call at 3:06 p.m. after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the garage of Robert and Christa Pence's house in the 9400 block of Sunlit Passage.

The fire spread from the garage and damaged two adjacent bedrooms before firefighters brought it under control at 4:21 p.m.

The flames destroyed two cars, one of which was a BMW.

Chief Howell said the cause of the fire was not known but that it did not appear to be suspicious.

The state Fire Marshal's office has begun an investigation.
