25 Years Ago (week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3, 1968):

* The County Commissioners denied a zoning change which would have allowed a concrete plant to be constructed in Ellicott City on Chevrolet Drive east of St. John's Lane. The denial was based on the fact the the commissioners found there to be no mistake in the original zoning.

50 Years Ago (week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6, 1943):

* The Rockland Homemakers Club met this week at the Chestnut Hill Farm home of Mrs. William F. Thompson. Thirty-one members and six visitors were in attendance. The guest speaker, County Agent Warren E. Meyers, gave a presentation on how to fill out income tax forms.

* Only 66 Howard County couples requested marriage licenses during the month of January 1943, compared with 169 during the same period in 1942, according to the clerk of the Circuit Court.
