Pyles stars for Shippensburg wrestling

Shippensburg wrestler Marty Pyles (Chesapeake-AA) finished fourth in the 134-pound weight class at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday in California, Pa.

Pyles, who upset No. 1 seed and All-American Brad Rozanski (Bloomsburg) in the first round by a 6-4 decision, was Shippensburg's highest finisher.

His three wins and two losses boosted his season record to 8-9.

Loyola will play Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Niagara tomorrow night, but Broadneck's Clint Holtz won't be able to square off against the visiting Greyhounds.

Holtz, who is in his fifth and final year of eligibility after transferring from George Washington, is out for the season with a fractured kneecap. He started for Niagara last season after sitting out the 1990-91 season. Niagara sports information director Jim Mauro said the school is in the process of appealing the NCAA for another year of eligibility for Holtz.

"College postcards" appears every Friday, featuring notes on former Baltimore-area high school athletes at out-of state colleges.
